5 Key Reasons Zero – Based Budgeting Is Worth The Time And Effort!

After, over four decades, of personal involvement, in nearly, everything, related to effectively, leading, from identifying and qualifying, to training, developing, and consulting to thousands of actual, and/ or, potential leaders, I strongly, believe, the best way for organizations (regardless of size, etc), to succeed, and be, as effective, as possible, is to use, zero – based, budgeting, in order to create the most effective, efficient, meaningful, relevant, path – forward! However, many seem to balk, at using this approach, because it takes more time, and effort, as well as demands, a far – more, thorough, review, of, nearly, every aspect of a group’s operation, etc! With, that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, 5 key reasons, this approach makes sense, and, invariably, is the best approach.

1. Bang – for – buck: Many actual, and/ or, potential stakeholders, even, some, who aren’t personally involvement, in any aspect of leading, consider, and emphasize, their personal perception, of whether, they believe, they receive, the best, bang – for – the – buck, regarding, every aspect of the specific organization. Are they feeling, value, from their membership, and involvement, and dues payments? Great leaders realize, times change, and therefore, it is important to re – emphasize, relevant priorities, and replace the same – old, same – old, when needed and indicated, instead of going, through, the motions!

2. Bigger picture: Using a zero – based, budget, permits leaders, and their group, to better plan, and consider the bigger – picture, in order to achieve the best service and representation to their groups and stakeholders! What works, or doesn’t, as well as, whether something needs modifications, or a total replacement, often, makes a significant difference!

3. Impacts; ramifications; Common Sense: When we don’t get the finest service, groups begin to lose their relevance, and sustainability! An organization must undergo quality, meaningful, consistent growth, or will lose its identity, and purpose! The potential impacts, actual possibilities and ramifications, and willingness, to use, true, Common Sense, in order to ensure its viability! Only, when a budget, considers all foreseeable contingencies, does it provide the best, possible value!

4. Budgeting discipline: When a budget is considered, and used, as a key, planning approach, and vehicle, the chances, for success, are enhanced! A zero – based budget, requires discipline, and, when applied, properly, there are fewer unanticipated obstacles!

5. Stop repeating same mistakes: An essential, leadership behavior, must be to commit to effectively, learning valuable lessons, from the past, address any, and all mistakes, or, near ones. Repeating the same errors, often, comes from failure to plan, effectively, and/ or, be willing to consider more, viable options and alternatives, regularly!

Instead of emphasizing, why, you might fear zero – based budgets, instead, make their use, one of your greatest weapons! Are you up to the tasks of meaningful, leading?
